/goal: Deep dive into Background Checks (US free people search resource)

Completed May 30, 2026

Executive Summary

Root synthesis: BackgroundChecks.org is a 27-year-old SEO affiliate portal (domain 1999, WordPress/Thrive stack) funneling users to 11 paid providers — it provides zero original data, has no API, and 7/9 subpages return 404. Verdict: DO NOT INTEGRATE.

📊 Key Findings

Broader landscape: 30 sites catalogued across 3 tiers; 19/20 free sites block automated access (Cloudflare/JS/CAPTCHAs); only PeopleFinders ($8/mo, curl-accessible) and Checkr ($30-90/check, REST API at 1200 req/min, MCP, free sandbox) are viable for automation. Final recommendation: HYBRID — Build DIY OSINT tool for Steps 2-3 (digital footprint, breach intel) at $4-25/mo + integrate PeopleFinders curl for Steps 1,4 (address history, criminal records) at ~$8/mo. Total $12-33/mo. Defer Checkr API to Phase 3 for FCRA-grade employment checks. All 8 original questions answered across 4 child task deliverables (3 research reports + 1 compiled deep-dive, ~64 KB total).
