📊 Executive Summary

Robinhood launched "Agentic Finance" on May 27, 2026, opening two MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to external AI agents: one for trading and one for banking / credit card. Both use StreamableHTTP transport with OAuth 2.0 browser-based authentication. Hermes Agent's native MCP client fully supports this protocol — connection is feasible and straightforward.

🌐 The Two MCP Servers

PropertyTrading MCPBanking MCP (Credit Card)
URL https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading https://banking-agent.robinhood.com/mcp/banking
Transport StreamableHTTP (standard MCP)
Auth OAuth 2.0 — browser-based onboarding flow
Purpose Read portfolio, place/cancel equity trades, search tickers View virtual card details, spending history, card settings
Scope Dedicated "Robinhood Agentic account" (separate brokerage) Read-only access to the agentic virtual card only

🛠️ Trading MCP — Tool Catalog 10 tools

ToolDescription
get_accountsView all your Robinhood accounts
get_portfolioPortfolio snapshot — total value, values by asset class, real-time buying power
get_equity_positionsOpen equity positions with quantity and cost basis
get_equity_quotesReal-time equity quotes and prior close (up to 20 symbols)

⚠️ Current Limitations: Long equities only (no options, crypto, futures — "coming soon"). Agentic account is a separate self-directed individual brokerage account. Max 10 self-directed accounts total including the Agentic account.

💳 Banking MCP — Capabilities Read-only

🛡️ Credit Card Safety Controls:
  • Approve-each-purchase mode — notification + approval in Robinhood app
  • Monthly spending limit — required if auto-approve is enabled
  • Agent can only access the agentic virtual card — not your main card or account

🔐 Authentication Flow (both servers)

  1. Configure the MCP URL in your AI platform
  2. On first connect, Robinhood returns an OAuth authorization URL
  3. User opens the URL in a desktop browser (mobile is NOT supported for setup)
  4. User authenticates with Robinhood and authorizes the agent
  5. For Trading: user creates the Agentic account during onboarding
  6. For Banking: user creates the agentic virtual card during onboarding
  7. MCP connection is now authorized — tools become available
⚠️ Important: Onboarding only works on desktop. If connecting from a mobile device, copy the onboarding URL and open it on a desktop browser.

🤖 Hermes Compatibility Assessment

✅ YES — Hermes can connect. Hermes's native MCP client (documented in native-mcp skill) supports:
  • StreamableHTTP transport — the exact transport Robinhood uses
  • HTTP headers for auth tokens if needed
  • OAuth flows — user completes auth in a browser; Hermes then uses the session
  • Tool auto-discovery — tools appear as mcp_robinhood_trading_* and mcp_robinhood_banking_*

⚙️ Configuration (~/.hermes/config.yaml)

mcp_servers: robinhood-trading: url: "https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading" timeout: 180 connect_timeout: 60 robinhood-banking: url: "https://banking-agent.robinhood.com/mcp/banking" timeout: 180 connect_timeout: 60

📋 Prerequisites

  1. Install MCP SDK: pip install mcp (currently NOT installed)
  2. Add config to ~/.hermes/config.yaml
  3. Restart Hermes to trigger MCP discovery
  4. Complete OAuth flow in a desktop browser when prompted

Hermes falls into the "other platforms" category and uses the same standard StreamableHTTP MCP transport.
